Research

Overview

The Department of Psychology at NMSU has active research in our three main areas of interest--Cognitive Psychology, Engineering Psychology and Social Psychology. In addition, much of our research bridges across areas. For example, we do collaborative research within the department on how culture affects cognition and on the performance, cognition and communication of teams. Faculty also collaborate with other departments on campus. Examples of cross-departmental collaboration are research on mother-infant relations with the Sociology/Anthropology Department and research on assistive technology with Computer Science. Our collaborations reach to other universities as well. Within New Mexico, we are collaborating with the University of New Mexico on cognitive neuroscience. Nationwide, we participate in a Collaborative Technology Alliance funded by the Army Research Laboratory concerned with Advanced Decision Architectures; our partners in the Alliance include Ohio State University, Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, University of West Florida, and the University of Central Florida.
