User-Centered Design Manager
Location: Stamford, CT
Description:
People in the role of User-Centered Design Manager are responsible for
overseeing and performing all aspects of user analysis, design, validation,
standards creation and publication, and research and communication on UI
processes. Managers are responsible for interviewing, selecting, and
retaining staff and for defining the priorities of teams and delegating
responsibility. Responsible for creating, tracking, and maintaining
schedules and ensuring all milestones are met within the defined budgets
and schedules.
Experience/Education:
Four year college degree in Computer Science, Psychology, Design, or
Technical Communications or equivalent experience. A typical candidate will
have at least two years experience in managing projects and people. This
experience should include effective leadership of projects ands
demonstrated capability to manage budgets, assemble and lead teams, manage
resources, and understand the technical environment.
User Interface Design Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA and Stamford, CT
Description:
The Product Development Department is looking for experienced professionals
in the User Centered Design Group (UCD) group.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Design Windows and Web-based User Interfaces for financial management
software applications
-Design user interfaces according to global user interface standards
-Review product User Interfaces for conformance to layout standards
-Participate in user-centered design for product features and business
objects
-Analyze and resolves global user interface issues of small or medium scope
-Participate in developing user interface models, metaphors, and standards
-Review and write user interface specifications
-Participate in building prototypes, using GUI tools
-Participate in Usability Tests: prepare test materials, conducts tests,
analyze and compile results
-Participate in international usability testing
Experience/Education:
The ideal candidate should have a 4-year degree in Psychology, Computer
Science, or Technical Communications preferred.
Position requires 3+ years' experience in a software development
environment. Must be proficient in using Windows software applications or
other GUI application. As well as experience in user-centered design of
software applications, in form layout and defining UI standards for layout
and behavior a plus.
Sr.User Interface Design Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA and Stamford, CT
Description:
-Designs forms, according to global UI standards
-Organizes and participates in user-centered design for business objects,
roduct features, and cross-product features
-Organizes and leads design walkthroughs
-Drives the resolution of user interface issues and ensure that the
requirements and the implementation are aligned
-Leads and participates in developing user interface models, metaphors, and
standards
-Writes and reviews user interface specifications
-Participates in planning and building prototypes using GUI tools
-Plans and organizes Usability Tests: preparing test materials, conducts,
compiles and analyzed results
Experience/Education:
-5+ years experience in user interface design within a software development
environment

Summer Usability Internships at Microsoft
The Microsoft Usability Group, in Redmond, WA, have several internship
positions starting in late May or June for graduate students in
human-computer interaction. The internship program term is about 12 weeks

Usability interns will work with our usability engineers on product design
issues and usability evaluation. We apply user-centered design and usability
engineering methods on a range of software solutions for the home and
office, ranging from operating systems, programming tools and client/server

product teams in defining customer needs, conducting usability studies, and
researching interface issues. While we attempt to match your assignments
with your interests, our goal is to provide you with the experience of
working in a fast-paced, applied research and design setting.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Masters or Ph.D.
degree program in Psychology, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering,
Computer Science or related discipline, with a PRIMARY focus on
human-computer interaction. Applicants must have knowledge of HCI research
and design guidelines as well as strong skills in research design and
qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Creative energy, initiative,
teamwork skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills are
essential. U.S. citizenship or visa status that permits work in the U.S. is
required.

You must be able to write clear proposals and
